Cloud coverage: The paid content-monitoring competitors compared here document processing monitored personal content on hosted infrastructure. This can depend on which monitoring features you enable; it does not mean every device activity leaves the phone.
Family coverage: Vela Fox Premium covers up to five protected child phones. The paid competitors compared here advertise unlimited family devices. The free alternative supports multiple supervised children without a paid plan.
Image and question features: Some top competitors offer photo analysis or an AI assistant. The Q&A row specifically requires interactive answers generated entirely on-device, without external servers or cloud computing. Messages Android makes visible
With notification access enabled, Protect checks incoming and updated notification previews on the protected phone. Hidden, muted, outgoing, deleted and disappearing content may be unavailable. It cannot open another app’s private messages or bypass encryption.
Photos and things you choose to share
Review selected photos, text, short audio and bounded video samples locally. The Play edition checks only selected or explicitly shared media; it does not automatically scan new library photos. The separate Premium-only Advanced edition supports optional shared-library photo checks. App-private and cloud-only media may be unavailable. A finding is a reason to review, never proof of a person’s age, identity or intent.
App activity, patterns and context
Optional Android Usage Access powers interactive foreground-time and session charts. Explore relationships between recent findings and request on-device AI commentary. Similarities suggest topics for a conversation; they do not establish a shared person, cause or harm. Activity reports stay on the protected phone.
Optional web and location signals
A separately enabled Web Shield can flag DNS domain contacts and block supported curated domains. It cannot read encrypted pages or search content. Visible, parent-enabled trip sessions can retain location observations. Permissions, phone settings and Android scheduling can leave gaps.
Google sources, with separate consent
The app includes optional, read-only reviews for Gmail, Calendar, Google Docs and Tasks. Each requires the account owner’s Google consent and publisher configuration. Reviews are started by the guardian and have item limits. These connections are not yet qualified for the public beta and are not continuous account monitoring.

How the phone check works
Before permissions or subscription setup, Protect checks the phone and runs invented text and image samples locally. No personal content is needed. The check measures background analysis capacity, rather than requiring instant results. Android Go and virtual RAM do not meet the memory requirements.
Quick safety rules check incoming previews. Deeper automatic reviews wait for idle time, sufficient battery and a cool phone, then pause when the phone wakes. Findings may arrive later. Ask Vela Fox and reviews you start yourself run when requested.
Up to 32 selected reviews wait encrypted on the phone for up to 24 hours. App restarts preserve the original deadline; phone restarts discard waiting reviews. Turning protection off or losing access erases them. Expired files are removed when Vela Fox next runs, and unprocessed previews are never marked safe. Photo checks can resume while library access remains enabled. A successful sample check confirms basic performance, not detection accuracy or all-day battery life. A system or analysis update requires a fresh check.
